Santa Monica Chapter, NSDAR
Santa Monica, California
Welcome
The Santa Monica Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was organized in Santa Monica on May 17, 1906. Today our 140+ members and 11 associate members come from all over the Greater Los Angeles area and up and down the coast. Local residency is not a requirement for membership in any chapter, but it’s helpful for involvement and for forming lasting friendships.
We are a vibrant group of women dedicated to promoting the goals of the NSDAR, a national, non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. Help is available to document your lineage and fill out the membership application.

About Us
Our chapter members come from a variety of backgrounds, interests, and ages, but we all share the common bond of having an ancestor who contributed to securing American independence.
However, the DAR is more than a lineage society; it is one of the world’s largest and most active volunteer service organizations. With members in thousands of chapters across the United States and internationally, when you join the DAR, you enter into a sisterhood of women forming lifelong friendships while being passionate about history, patriotism, education, and especially, the desire to make a difference in our communities.
Whether you are a college student, career woman, mother, retiree, or grandmother, the Santa Monica Chapter, NSDAR, offers many opportunities for you to be involved. You can plug in from home, at meetings, or at special events. If you would like to join us, we encourage you to attend one of our meetings, activities, or events — we’d be happy to include you.
Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War is eligible and welcome to join our dynamic chapter.
Chapter Theme
“...we should all be tolerant of each other and embrace each others’ strengths and differences and uniqueness and beauty.” — Martina McBride
Chapter Motto
Our Heritage is the Root on which our Tomorrows grow.
Interested in Joining?
We invite you to contact our registrar for information about DAR eligibility and assistance with completing your membership application. Prospective members are always welcome to attend our chapter meetings — please contact our Regent for information. We look forward to meeting you!
For those interested in joining the DAR, visit the NSDAR’s How to Join page for a wealth of information. You may also contact the Santa Monica Chapter Registrar directly. If a blood relative is or was a DAR member, or if you know your Patriot’s name and state of service, that is helpful in getting started; otherwise, you will need to do more research. We may have a genealogical workshop planned during the year, so contact us if you’re interested.
Membership in the DAR is usually done through a local chapter, but you can also be a Member-at-Large. Learn more by emailing NSDAR Member Services.
Transfers & Associate Membership
New to the area? The Santa Monica Chapter, NSDAR, welcomes transfers from other DAR chapters. If you’d like to discuss transferring your DAR membership to the Santa Monica Chapter, please contact our Regent for information.
After becoming a member of a DAR chapter, you may want to consider joining another chapter, anywhere around the world, as an Associate Member. If you visit the Los Angeles area every year, you may join our Santa Monica Chapter as an associate member and be invited to our local events and activities. Please contact our Regent for details on joining our chapter as an associate member.
