DAR – Daughters of the American Revolution

California State Society

Santa Margarita Chapter, NSDAR

Oceanside, California

Welcome

The Santa Margarita Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), held its first meeting on February 23, 1926, and was confirmed by the NSDAR on October 29, 1929. It was originally named the Oceanside Chapter, NSDAR; however, in 1972 the name was changed to the Santa Margarita Chapter, NSDAR, to better represent the Santa Margarita Valley. Gaspar de Portolà named the Santa Margarita Valley in 1769 during his first expedition north from San Diego.

We are part of the largest women’s volunteer service and female-led organization in the U.S., and our service to our community focuses on three core areas: patriotism, historic preservation, and education. The Santa Margarita Chapter is very active in the Oceanside area. We have monthly buffet breakfast meetings, held the first Saturday of each month, January through June and September through December, with a program that supports our National Society’s mission and our chapter’s emphasis on service to our community.

As a chapter, we sponsor and participate in several patriotic events and are dedicated to supporting our veterans and active-duty military. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Santa Margarita Chapter, NSDAR, or if you are a Daughter who has relocated to the Oceanside area, please contact our 2nd Vice Regent, Julia Calvario, so we can answer your questions and extend a personal invitation to our next meeting.

Getting to Know Us

Though officially identified with Oceanside, the Santa Margarita Chapter, NSDAR, draws members from surrounding communities, from San Clemente to La Jolla and east to Vista and Fallbrook. We are an interesting, diverse group of women with Junior members in their mid-twenties to senior, long-time members in their nineties. We are proud of our multi-generational membership, allowing Daughters the opportunity to associate with and enjoy what each age has to offer.

Our meetings are held in Oceanside on the first Saturday of the month, January through June and September through December. We enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast, have time for friendly fellowship, and appreciate interesting and varied programs that focus on the goals and objectives of our Society. Please contact our Librarian, Rosanne Miller, for more specific meeting information.
