DAR – Daughters of the American Revolution

California State Society

Luiseño Chapter, NSDAR

Temecula, California

Welcome

We are located in the Temecula Valley of California and named after the Luiseño Band of Indians, an indigenous tribe associated with the Mission San Luis Rey. Temecula is a beautiful area of Southern California, rich in history and known for its cool ocean breeze, rolling hills, and vineyards.

The Luiseño Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was established September 22, 1966, by Ora B. Findley, our organizing regent, one of 11 charter members. Our primary focus is to promote patriotism, historic preservation, and education, while honoring our Patriot ancestors.

We offer membership to any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a Revolutionary War Patriot. We will be happy to work with you to determine if you are eligible to join. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month from January through May and September through December. We warmly welcome visitors to our meetings and new members into our chapter.

About Us

The very first meeting of the Luiseño Chapter, NSDAR, was held in Sun City, California, on September 27, 1966, and was attended by the California State Society DAR regent and organizing secretary. There were 11 charter members, 16 organizing members, and five associate members in the chapter in 1966. Meetings were held in members’ homes or at the Civic Hall located in Sun City, California. In 1972, the chapter moved its meeting place to make it more convenient for members to attend in the surrounding area of Temecula Valley.

Luiseño Chapter, NSDAR, supports and participates in projects for active military, veterans of all wars, and historic preservation in our community. Educational support for teachers, student literacy, and American history essay contests are a large part of our chapter.
