Lake Tahoe Chapter, NSDAR
South Lake Tahoe, California
Welcome
Lake Tahoe Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), was officially chartered in South Lake Tahoe, California on January 5, 2019. DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization whose mission is historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Membership in the chapter is open to any woman 18 years of age and older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a man or woman who aided in achieving American independence. Lake Tahoe Chapter is one of over 3,000 chapters worldwide with international membership of over 185,000 women.
Our local Lake Tahoe Chapter is a diverse group of women who range in age from 28 to over 80 and include professionals, entrepreneurs, homemakers, volunteers and retirees. Although we’re of diverse backgrounds and beliefs, we’re united in our commitment of service to the communities in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Some of our many community service projects include supporting military veterans and homeless students at Lake Tahoe Community College, honoring local high school students with DAR Good Citizen Awards, hosting Beginning Genealogy Workshops, supporting local conservation efforts, and collecting flags for flag retirement ceremonies. Our chapter is also very active in the restoration and preservation of a local 150-year-old historical cemetery that has suffered from neglect and vandalism.
We invite you to consider membership in our active, friendly, and growing chapter! Please contact us and attend one of our meetings — we look forward to meeting you!
About Us
Lake Tahoe Chapter, NSDAR, began January 5, 2019, with 25 members and 42 associate members. Chapter meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 am, with a social time at 9:30 am. Meetings begin with an opening ritual, followed by a program, then the business session. Guests are always welcome to come and learn about the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Lake Tahoe Chapter, NSDAR, Daughters are an active group, proud of their chapter’s unique and wonderful namesake. The Lake Tahoe Basin is one of our country’s national treasures, and chapter members are committed to its conservation. Chapter members participate in the annual Keep Tahoe Blue Beach Cleanup, which occurs the day after the July Fourth festivities, and have selected the Lake Tahoe Basin as the recipient of the chapter’s Penny Pines Reforestation Program donations.
Chapter members have chosen service projects that relate to South Lake Tahoe’s community of approximately 24,000 residents. The chapter is working toward the restoration and preservation of the Al Tahoe Cemetery, which was donated to the local populace in 1869 by former State Assemblyman Thomas Rowland. To that end, the chapter formed a committee that, in addition to chapter members, now includes representation from the California Tahoe Conservancy, the City of South Lake Tahoe, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra, and the Lake Tahoe Historical Society. The chapter is also focusing attention on Lake Tahoe Community College by donating to the campus food pantry for students in need and supporting military veterans attending the college, supporting those in the community who are seeking United States citizenship and honoring those who become citizens, and marching in the city’s annual Fourth of July Parade.
