Fresno-Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR

Fresno, California

Welcome

The Fresno Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in Fresno, California, on March 23, 1922. The organizing meeting of the Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR, was held in Clovis, California, on September 25, 1969. On December 8, 2007, these two chapters merged to become the Fresno-Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR. The Kaweah Chapter, NSDAR, merged with the Fresno-Yosemite Chapter on June 5, 2022, making us the largest chapter in California.

We meet monthly on the second Saturday, September through June. Our meetings are fun and engaging, with excellent speakers and programs. Additional special events are also scheduled throughout the year, such as Honor Flight receptions, monthly Genealogy Club meetings, the annual Veterans Day parade, and many service projects.

Our chapter’s members range in age from the 20s to the 90s and are dedicated to supporting our national, state, and community projects. Locally, these projects include providing student scholarships in California’s largest DAR Good Citizen program, awarding Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) certificates and medals to students at local high schools and Fresno State, and supporting veterans at our local Veterans Administration Hospital and at Homefront, a transitional Women Veterans Shelter.

About Us

The Fresno-Yosemite Chapter, NSDAR, is located in the central valley agricultural area of California between Los Angeles and Sacramento. Fresno is home to many cultures, faiths, and interests, and several universities call it home, including Fresno Pacific University, Fresno City College, and California State University, Fresno.

Nearby is the Sierra Nevada mountain range, home to three prestigious national parks: Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Kings Canyon National Park. If you prefer the ocean, Pismo Beach, Santa Cruz, and Monterey are only two to three hours west of Fresno by car.

If your idea of beautiful scenery runs more to forests of genealogy books instead of trees, the Fresno County Public Library is the place for you. The San Joaquin Valley Heritage and Genealogy Center at the central branch has many thousands of volumes, including the extensive book collection of the Fresno County Genealogical Society, and is now home to many books from the former California State DAR Library, along with holdings from libraries throughout most of CSSDAR District V.
